back in the swing of things

Hey folks!

My training with Campus Crusade is going great! We had a few days of orientation to the organization when we first got here (a number of key people in CCC came to speak to us about the history, direction, and vision of Campus Crusade for the future, including the president, Steve Douglass), and now we're a few days into our summer courses. The classes, Bible Study Methods and Doctrine and Theology are two weeks long, and are pretty intense in their workload, but I'm keeping up as best I can! After these two weeks, we'll be experiencing other kinds of training for two or three more weeks, then all the US staff within CCC will be coming out here for the giant biannual CCC conference! I'm looking forward to that time, but I am really enjoying the smaller community we're experiencing now (about 150 New Staff, and there are also some "old" staff here for other kinds of training... in total, I think I heard about 600-700 people are here now).

They've tried to provide us with some things to keep us active and involved, as well. I'm playing on womens' softball and co-ed volleyball teams, and although it's VERY hot here, it's been a fun and welcome break in long days of classes and studying! On the weekends, we usually try to do something adventurous (after all, it IS Colorado!). Last weekend, we hiked to the peak of Horsetooth Mountian (which we can see from campus), a three hour hike up and down, but one that kept most of us pretty sore for a few days after. It was a feat, to be sure, but a lightning storm kept some of us from getting to the very top (we made it about 15' from the summit), unfortunately. Still, I maintain that surviving in one piece is worth more than the glory of reaching the top. If we intend to suffer for the gospel, we can't very well suffer and die now for other meaningless things.

One odd thing here is that the air is so dry that you sweat without knowing it. It's an odd feeling to go running and not perspire when you SHOULD be doing so, but it's a nice feeling to be dry afterwards.
